‘Social Contagion’ Isn’t Causing More Youths to be Transgender, Study Finds

The study, published in Pediatrics, disputes the baseless “theory” that more adolescents, particularly those assigned female at birth, are identifying as trans due to social influence. This destructive myth of “social contagion” has too much momentum and is causing great harm to trans and nonbinary folx. This article provides evidence rather than baseless opinion in support of the knowledges people have of their own identities and debunks the myth’s accusations about the impressionability of youth and and attacks on cisgender girls. The awful lie of “social contagion” scares parents who are trying to understand and support their child’s experiences and efforts to learn who they are and be who they are. The study cited in this article provides valuable evidence-based support for those parents who want their children to thrive rather than fall prey to political ideology.
